Due to the COVID pandemic, the OPER! AWARDS skipped the 2021 selection process and prize ceremony.

The long lockdown affected 2020/21 even more profoundly than the season before – more than six months went by without performances. At most, some opera houses were able to offer a few online streams, though without live audiences. Yet streams are not a sufficient basis on which to assess a production, especially when trying to take into account vocal and musical performances. Still, members of the OPER! AWARDS Jury did meet for a discussion of the 2020/21 season on 30 November 2021 in Berlin.
